President Obama Speaks with Troops Deployed in Operation United Assistance

SOURCE:  DoD News, Defense Media Activity

WASHINGTON, DC– President Barack Obama has spoken with service personnel working to stop the spread of Ebola in West Africa to offer his profound gratitude for their role in Operation United Assistance.

Here is the statement released by the White House:

The President spoke by phone on Saturday afternoon with U.S. service members in Liberia and Senegal taking part in OperationDepartment of Defense United Assistance, the U.S. military mission to contain the Ebola outbreak at its source.

The President, on behalf of the American people, offered his profound gratitude to the dedicated men and women providing logistics support, engineering expertise, construction services, and other elements needed to bring the epidemic under control.

The President underscored that the civilian-led, whole of government strategy to tackle Ebola on the frontlines is the most effective way to prevent further spread of the disease and protect the American people from additional cases at home. He concluded the call by noting that, while we must not relent in this campaign, initial signs of progress in Liberia were a testament to the skill and determination of these service members and their civilian counterparts. Their service embodies American leadership at its finest.

Herndon, VA — Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) reported 30,313 units delivered in October.

The momentum of the all-new Golf family continued to bring excitement to consumers and showrooms through the month of October. Golf model sales in October included 2,351 Golf units and 1,724 Golf GTIs.

“Thanks to the refreshed Jetta and the all-new 2015 Golf and Golf GTI attracting customers and enthusiasts, we are pleased to see increased traffic in our showrooms,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America.

The e-Golf was rated by the EPA at126 city, 105 highway, and 116 combined Miles per Gallon of Gasoline Equivalent* (MPGe), and given a range of up to 83 miles: these numbers make the e-Golf the most efficient car in its class for the 2015 model year. To kick off the launch of the e-Golf, Volkswagen of America partnered with Global Green USA (GGUSA) to auction off the first all-electric Volkswagen in the United States. The auction raised more than $41,000 for GGUSA and its efforts to help protect the planet. The winning bidder, Bruce Oberg, is scheduled to take delivery of his e-Golf from a dealer in Oregon later this week.

The 2015 State of Indiana Disparity Study Begins

SOURCE:  The Indian Department of Administration

The Indiana Department of Administration has commissioned BBC to begin the 2015 State of Indiana Disparity Study. The 2015 study will include the examination of statistical data from all state agencies, the Indianapolis Airport Authority and each of the state educational institutions (Indiana University, Indiana State University, Purdue University, Ball State University, VincennesIndiana Department of Administration University, University of Southern Indiana and Ivy Tech Community College).

Per Indiana Code 4-13-16.5-2, that state of Indiana is required to update its disparity study every five years. The purpose of the study is to compare the actual number of minority- and women-owned business enterprises that exist in the state, against the actual number of minority- and women-owned businesses being utilized in state government contracts. A disparity exists when there is under-utilization of available minority- and women-owned businesses.

“Disparity studies are important because they are a way for government agencies to examine whether programs are needed to assist minority- and women-owned businesses in government contracting and purchasing,” said Terrie Daniel, Deputy Commissioner for the State of Indiana’s Division of Supplier Diversity.

“Participation goals for contracts across the state are set by the Governor’s Commission on Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises based on the results of the disparity study.” Public forums will be scheduled across the state in 2015 to discuss the disparity study and to collect feedback and input from minority and women-owned businesses. Visit http://www.in.gov/idoa/mwbe/2674.htmstudy updates.
