Each Office initiates, executes, and coordinates civil and criminal investigations of alleged violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and conducts investigations of all types of employee benefit plans. Each office also develops, plans, and implements a general information and education program for the public on ERISA and the related health laws, responds to specific inquiries from the public, and provides technical assistance on the rights and obligations of plan participants, beneficiaries, and officials under the law. This position has promotion potential to GS-6. Promotion Potential: There is no obligation to provide future promotions to you if you are selected. Future promotions are dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and supervisory approval. Job Summary:
The position is located in the Kansas City Regional Office. Student Interns are required to report to the Kansas City Regional Office and work on investigative files located in the Kansas City Regional Office. This position is not eligible for telework. This is a student internship appointment that is expected to last for more than one year. PLEASE NOTE: To be appointed to this position, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying academic institution at the time of appointment, and must maintain such enrollment throughout the duration of the appointment. Upon completion of requirements for graduation and successful completion of the internship, the appointee may become eligible for non-competitive conversion, at the agency’s discretion, to a term or permanent position in the competitive service. Appointee must sign a DOL Pathways Intern Program Participant Agreement. The entire duration of the internship constitutes a trial period. Appointee must be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the internship.
