During the month of August, the Fresno SBA District Office joins AARP in celebrating Encore Entrepreneurs who start businesses at age 50 or older! If you’re thinking about what to do after retirement, beginning a second career, or turning your skills into a business, let SBA help!
We’re hosting 2 free workshops in August for Encore Entrepreneurs ages 50+, as well as entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners of all ages! Learn how SBA’s programs can help you turn a great idea into a profitable business. Both workshops are free, and hosted at our beautiful downtown Fresno office which offers free parking.

Government Contracting Workshop
Encore Entrepreneurs are business owners who start companies over the age of 50. If you’re becoming a business owner in retirement, or starting second career, learn how to find success with government contracting! Entrepreneurs of all ages are welcome to attend!
There has never been a better time to do business with the Federal government, the world’s biggest purchaser of goods and services. If you are exploring opportunities to contract with government agencies, or want to win bigger government projects, this workshop is for you. Learn how to compete effectively for Federal, State, and other contracting opportunities
The workshop will include an overview of SBA’s 8(a), HUBZone, and Surety Bonding Guarantee Programs. Attendees will also learn how to obtain and use contracting certifications for Women and Veteran-owned businesses to market to contracting officials.
Caltrans representatives will provide information on how State contracting programs give your company opportunities to compete for jobs in California, and you will hear about contracting opportunities with the California High Speed Rail Authority.
This event will conclude with a Question and Answer session with the experts.

SBA Loans for Entrepreneurs 50+
The United States Small Business Administration is hosting a FREE SBA loan workshop for “Encore Entrepreneurs” – those who start businesses after the age of 50. Entrepreneurs of all ages are welcome to attend!
This workshop is designed for Encore Entrepreneurs who want to start or buy a business, or grow their existing companies. This workshop will be presented by an experienced SBA Loan Officer who will cover the specifics of SBA guaranteed loan programs. Learn about small loans for home-based businesses, multi-million dollar real estate and manufacturing transactions, exporting loans, construction loans, lines of credit, and others. This workshop will also include a local banker who will explain how to prepare a successful SBA loan application, and the event will conclude with a Question & Answer session

Kauffman Foundation’s FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ program
Are you a small business owner who wants to take the next step?
Louisville Forward is offering a 10-week program for small business financial and strategic planning.
If you are a small business owner, chances are you started with a business plan. And if you haven’t revisited that plan since you started your business, you may need a new plan to move your business forward. A strategy for sustained, manageable growth can take your business to the next level.
Kauffman Foundation’s FastTrac® GrowthVentureTM program is a flexible 10-week course, offered by TKT & Associates, Inc. in a 3-hour/week format, with a proven framework to help established small business owners realize their business’ full potential through sustainable growth and operational efficiency. TKT provides certified facilitators to teach the courses in an interactive, group-oriented environment where participants can network with one another to bolster their business knowledge and ideas.
This course is for small business owners who are ready to grow, but don’t have the tools in place to reach the next step, whether it’s developing a finance or strategic plan, or expanding operations or locations. FastTrac GrowthVenture focuses on the issues needed to build and sustain growth.
The course begins on Tuesday, August 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Louisville Urban League, located at 1535 W. Broadway.
