“Women endure entire lifetimes of these indignities—in the form of catcalls, groping, assault, oppression. These things injure us. They sap our strength. Some of the cuts are so small they’re barely visible. Others are huge and gaping, leaving scars that never heal. Either way, they accumulate. We carry them everywhere, to and from school and work, at home while raising our children, at our places of worship, anytime we try to advance.”
― Michelle Obama, Becoming
This is October and everywhere across the country people are celebrating “Bully Prevention” month. It’s the month that citizens young and old can take a stand to help prevent bullying. So I’m taking this opportunity to salute Shant’a Miller White and Parents Against Bullying, VA, for fighting the scourge of bullying in all its forms in schools, the workplace, social media and communities on a daily basis.
Her work makes it possible for men, women and children to hold their heads high and to successfully combat bullying with positive strategies and affirmations.
Her ability to take a personal negative bullying incident over seven years ago which involved her daughters, and turn that situation into a positive for communities across the country garnered her recognition from former first lady Michelle Obama and Virginia Governor Ralph S. Northam. It’s a true testament to her grit and commitment to doing what’s right for children and families.
Recently her organization got another big supporter to join the Parent Against Bullying (P.A.B.) effort when Grammy Award winner rapper, producer and actor Method Man dropped a public service announcement on their behalf (see PSA below).
I want to thank “Method Man” for taking a stand against bullying and I encourage others to stand with him and support this great organization!
